What is Iridium powder?

Iridium, atomic number 77, the atomic weight of 192.22, the element's name comes from the Latin, original intention is "rainbow". In 1803, a British chemist tennant, French chemist's scottie dissolved in aqua regia coarse platinum, from the residue in the bottom of the vessel discovered two new elements in black powder - osmium and iridium. Iridium in content in the earth's crust is one over ten million, often scattered with platinum group elements in alluvial deposits and placer deposit in all kinds of ores. Nature exists two isotopes: iridium 191, iridium 193.
Chemical properties of iridium is stable. Is the corrosion resistance of the metal, iridium for high chemical stability, acid insoluble in acid, only the spongy iridium will slowly dissolved in aqua regia, hot if it is a dense state of iridium, even boiling aqua regia, nor corrode iridium; Slightly by molten sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide and sodium dichromate. Generally the etchant can corrosion iridium. Has a tendency to form the coordination compounds have strong. Main valence + 2, + 4, + 6.
